What does an OGG to MP3 converter do?

An OGG to MP3 converter turns an .ogg or .oga audio file into an MP3 so that players, phones and editors that skip OGG can open it. OGG is an open container that usually holds Vorbis or Opus audio. This tool decodes the file in your browser and saves an MP3 at 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. A higher bitrate keeps more detail and makes a larger file. Because MP3 is a compressed format, converting from another compressed format cannot add back detail that the OGG already lost. The work runs on your own device with the Web Audio API, so the file is not uploaded and no copy is kept. If the file does not open, the browser could not read its audio. It is free, with no account and no watermark.

How to use it

  1. Open the file An .ogg or .oga file.
  2. Pick a bitrate 192 kbps is the default. Higher keeps more detail and makes a larger MP3.
  3. Download Download the MP3. Nothing is uploaded.

What the converter does

The browser decodes the file to audio samples, then saves an MP3. It does not create M4A, OGG, FLAC or M4R. If a video or unusual file will not open, the browser could not read its audio.

FAQ

Is the file uploaded?

No. The OGG file is decoded and converted to MP3 in your browser, so it never leaves your device and no copy is kept. Closing or reloading the tab discards the file. You must own the rights to the audio you convert. Nothing is sent to a server at any step.

Why is MP3 not identical to WAV?

MP3 throws away some detail to make a smaller file, while WAV keeps the decoded samples at 16-bit, so the two are not identical. An OGG file is usually already compressed too, so converting it to MP3 compresses it a second time and cannot restore what was lost. A higher bitrate, up to 320 kbps, keeps more detail. The default is 192 kbps.

What if decode fails?

Open the page in another browser. Decoding OGG depends on the browser, and support for the audio inside the file, usually Vorbis or Opus, can vary. If the browser cannot read the audio, the tool cannot convert it, and no upload is involved. A file with an .ogg or .oga extension is accepted.
